Let me tell you something straight. Most people think they are spiritual. But in reality, they are just following things blindly. And the dangerous part? They don’t even realize it.
My First Exposure to “Fake Spirituality”
In my childhood, there was no internet, no smartphone. My father used to bring CDs of speeches related to B. R. Ambedkar’s thoughts. In those recordings, people openly criticized fake gurus, black magic, and blind beliefs. That was the first time something clicked in my mind. Later, I started reading books like Buddha and His Dhamma. And honestly, I feel lucky because I understood very early: Not everything that looks spiritual is actually spirituality. Today, I see people around me even educated people blindly following superstition: “nazar suraksha kavach,” astrology predictions, future-reading cards, viral “law of attraction” promises. And all of this is spreading even faster in the internet era. People are not searching for truth. They are searching for comfort.
What I Almost Believed (And Questioned in Time)
I’ll be honest. At one point, I was also influenced by the “law of attraction.” But something didn’t sit right. I started asking myself questions: If just thinking can change reality, why isn’t everyone successful? Why do people suffer even after “positive thinking”? And slowly I stepped away. Here’s the truth: Some ideas may have small value, but when exaggerated they become illusion.
My Biggest Realization: Two Extremes Are Both Wrong
I saw two types of people: People who believe: “God will fix everything.” People (like me at one time) who believe: “There is no God, nothing higher exists.” Both are extremes. And both are incomplete. When I read about Gautama Buddha, I realized something deeper. Buddha didn’t give a fixed answer like: “God exists” or “God doesn’t exist.” Instead, his approach was: “Find out for yourself.” In some teachings, when people asked Buddha about God, he didn’t give a direct yes/no answer. He guided them toward self-understanding, not blind belief. That changed everything for me.
What Is NOT Spirituality (My Clear Understanding)
Let’s break some illusions directly.
1. Blindly Following Gurus
If you follow someone without questioning… That’s not spirituality. That’s dependency. If your guru cannot answer logical questions he is not guiding you, he is controlling you.
2. Law of Attraction (Blind Version)
Just thinking about something will not bring it into reality. And even if it works sometimes, what you are chasing may not even be meaningful. It gives temporary excitement not real growth.
3. Astrology & Future Prediction
Let’s be clear. Astrology is not spirituality. And it is not science either. Anyone claiming to predict your future from charts is playing with your fear and hope.
4. Meditation Misunderstood
Meditation is not just closing your eyes, focusing on your breath, and feeling calm. Real meditation involves observing your anger, understanding your jealousy, questioning your ego, and fixing your life patterns. Feeling calm after meditation is not transformation. It’s temporary relief.
5. Praying for Solutions
Praying is not spirituality. If you think someone out there will solve your problems… You are avoiding responsibility.
6. “Be Calm, Be Positive” Culture
Being calm or positive is not spirituality it’s about facing truth. Sometimes, it makes you a fighter not a peaceful escape artist.
7. Emotional Control Obsession
“Control your emotions” people say this a lot. But spirituality is not about suppressing emotions. Even in the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna tells Arjuna: Don’t run away from your duty face it. Truth is more important than comfort.
What I Believe Now
After all this, my understanding is simple: Spirituality is not about beliefs. It is about understanding. Not blind trust. Not emotional comfort. Not external solutions. It is about questioning deeply, observing honestly, and finding truth yourself.
My Message to You
I know many of you are confused. Sometimes you think: leave everything and go to the Himalayas. Sometimes you think: focus on job, money, relationships. You are stuck between two worlds. Let me tell you clearly: This path is not easy. It will break your beliefs, challenge your thinking, and disturb your comfort. But it will also give clarity, remove confusion, and transform your life completely.
If your spirituality: makes you dependent, removes your responsibility, gives you comfort without truth. Then it is not spirituality. It is just a beautiful illusion. Break free from it. Because only after breaking false spirituality… you can start your real journey.
